From the Collection of the Athenaeum Antebellum
Built by some unknown architect to preserve the treasures and knowledge of a forgotten age in anticipation of a cataclysmic war, the Athenaeum Antebellum sprawls for miles underground, its marble-tiled halls splitting and narrowing like roots. An army of wraiths, medusas and manticores serve as its docents.
Claw of New Forms
A fossilized claw, about six inches long and curved, etched with alchemical symbols of transformation. Its tip and inner edge are sharpened to a razor sharpness. If used to scratch a creature, they suffer the effects of a polymorph others spell, its form selected randomly.
Mother's Tears
A rare vinelike plant with many tooth-sized, silver-blue leaves. Ground to a paste, mixed with water and allowed to settle for three nights under a full moon this forms a sweet liquor that can be used to resurrect a dead infant. The child can cast detect evil, ESP, clairvoyance, clairaudance, confusion and telekinesis each once per day with the understanding and intention of a baby.
The Devil's Goad
A carriage whip whose handle is made of a goatlike horn. Being struck by the whip fills a target with the sense that something dangerous is pursuing them. In combat this forces creatures to make a morale test or flee. The goad can also be used to drive a horse to run at 2.5× speed, but for each day of travel at this rate, there is a [days of travel]-in-6 chance that the horse dies of a heart attack.
