Knight's Events at the Vionhous Tournament

Knight Generator, Common Events

The Joust

Any knight may challenge a knight with more honour. The challenged knight may either forfeit, or accept.

Use the Chainmail jousting matrix. A knight that would be unhorsed can roll 2d6+Fighting Capacity, staying in the saddle on a result of 10+. A fall from the saddle has a 1-in-6 chance of resulting in an injury.

Breaking a lance is worth one point. Unhorsing your opponent is worth 3 points. After 3 tilts the knight with the highest score wins. The winner takes one honour from the loser. A tie goes to the challenger.

The Duels

As with jousts, a less honourable knight issues the challenge. The challenger also decides the armour and terms of victory (First blood or to knockout). The challenger gets the first pick of weapon, then the challenged knight chooses.

Use the Man-to-Man combat table. Knights make one attack per Fighting Capacity, plus any bonuses from weapon class. Knights can take one hit per Fighting Capacity before suffering a knockout. A knockout has a 2-in-6 chance of resulting in an injury. Either knight can end a round early by forfeiting.

The best of 3 matches wins. The winner takes one honour from the loser. A tie goes to the challenger.

The Melee

The main event. The third day of the tournament, the two most honourable knights are declared generals and divide up the rest of their peers into two armies, line them up on horseback and charge at each other.

Use the standard combat tables, but treat each knight as an Armoured unit. Every knight of Fighting Capacity 4-7 fights as a Hero, 8+ fights as a Superhero. Knights are knocked out instead of being slain. Unhorsing and knockouts have the same chance of injury as in Jousting and Dueling. Knights who are knocked out or surrender are captured. Unguarded prisoners can attempt to escape by rolling 5+ on 1d6.

After 10 rounds, the fighting ends. Captured knights lose 1 Honour and are expected to pay a 1000sp ransom to the knight that captured them. Generals lose 5 Honour and are expected to pay a 5000sp ransom. Free generals, or the most honourable uncaptured knight in an army gains honour equal to that lost by their prisoners.
