Powerful People in Vionhous
King Zellposdan II the Merciful
Deathly ill and concerned for his legacy as he doesn't have a surviving heir. Under Vionhous law, his throne would go to Sir Totethbrose, who he does not trust. He has called a tournament in the hopes that another knight will surpass Totethbrose's station.
Lady Udala the Exiled
King Zellposdan's estranged wife. Kept under guard in Acrejourn after she engineered a failed coup with Sir Nedkrac The Underhanded. Granted amnesty to attend the tournament.
Sir Totethbrose the Champion
The realm's most honourable knight according to the College of Heralds. He has fought long and hard to secure the glory of Vionhous and has never been able to gain the king's favour.
Lady Philea from Afar
Sir Totethbrose' wife, the daughter of a noble from the Onyx-Studded Coast. Her affair with King Zellposdan is an open secret to everyone except Sir Totethbrose.
Damme Gethrude the Imposing
Sir Totethbrose' daughter, fought hard and valliantly to prove her right to knighthood, but her position remains a source of contention. Best friend of Lady Mular.
Lady Szemere the Indolent
Sir Totethbrose' favourite daughter. Presents very traditionally ladylike in opposition to her sister. Is studying heraldry, and her progress has impressed Dean Dontreb the Twentieth
Sir Nedkrac the Underhanded
Formerly the most honourable knight in the kingdom. Disgraced after his failed coup, he only escaped execution due to the intercession of the bishop.
Lady Mular the Messenger
Sir Nedkrac's wife, though there are rumours that their marriage was never consummated. Mular has made a name for herself as a medium and diviner, which has made her enemies within the church. Best friend of Damme Gethrude. Disciple of Mother Kyprianou
Köster the Lesser
Sir Nedkrac's squire. A haunted fellow. He knows something about recent castle intrigue that is eating him up inside.
Bishop Coneus the Resplendent
A shrewd political operator, but his taste for finer things has led him into scandal in the past. He has never directly opposed Zellposdan, but his disdain for the king is common knowledge. Has a close friendship with Sir Nedkrac.
Dean Dontreb the Twentieth
Head of the college of Heralds, Jesters and Bards, the institution which maintains records of all active knights and their honour. Dontreb is a strict enforcer of the integrity of college, as a commoner he feels more scrutiny than the church or crown.
Bursar Algeo the Quantifier
The failson of an earl, a filanderer and occultist who was disowned by his family after his indisgressions became public. Recieved a position in the college of Heralds, Jesters and Bards after granting them a generous endowment, and he excelled there. His only disappointment now is that he must take orders from Dean Dontreb despite the man's common background.
Mother Kypriano of the Shadows
A proper witch who lives in the Iterant quarter of Vionhous. She is nearly impossible to find, and communicates through the city's urchins who worship her. While both the crown and church oppose her activity, many nobles and aristocrats rely on her advice and magical interventions.
