Shiny Spell Scrolls

1-in-20 spell scrolls are shiny, 1-in-100 are epic.

Shiny Effects

  1. Cause Light Wounds (Clerical). Can affect a target you know about within 60'
  2. Charm Person. Until you cast this, gain +1 to reaction rolls while carrying it
  3. Cure Light Wounds (Clerical). Can also be used to mend items
  4. Darkness (Clerical). You are unaffected by this darkness
  5. Detect Evil (Clerical). Before this is cast, you have a 1-in-6 chance of noticing traps while you carry it
  6. Detect Good (Clerical). You can determine
  7. Detect Magic. You learn the name of the magic's creator
  8. Detect Magic (Clerical). You can identify cursed and invisible items as such.
  9. Hold Portal. You know instinctively the next time this door is open or closed
  10. Light. You can select the intensity and colour of light (including ultraviolet or infrared)
  11. Light (Clerical). You can cast the spell without a target, giving you a halo
  12. Magic Missile. Hit targets must make a saving throw against petrification or be knocked prone
  13. Read Magic (1). After casting, it is replaced with a random spell that you can read
  14. Read Languages. For the duration, you can also write and speak languages
  15. Protection from Evil. Anything that attacks you for the duration takes 1 damage.
  16. Protection from Evil (Clerical). For the duration you can turn chaotic creatures as if they were undead
  17. Protection from Good (Clerical). For the duration, any lawful creatures who try to attack you must make a saving throw against spells or turn chaotic for 1d6 hours
  18. Purify Food and Water (Clerical). If the food or drink was poisoned, you know who did it (2)
  19. Sleep. If cast on friendly characters, they awake an hour later as if from a night's rest
  20. Shield. Allies within 1" of you have a +1 armour enchantment vs missiles and a +2 enchantment vs other attacks
  21. Ventriloquism. Can be used to perfectly mimic another's voice or non-voice sounds

Epic Effects

In addition to a the shiny effect:

  1. After casting the spell, there is a 2-in-6 chance it won't fade from the scroll
  2. This scroll is written in common runes and can be cast by anyone
  3. This scroll turns into a treasure map when cast
  4. This scroll can be cast by merely thinking the activation phrase
  5. By rubbing this scroll on another scroll, there is a 2-in-6 chance of the second scroll becoming shiny and a 1-in-6 chance of this scroll becoming common
  6. Casting this scroll prepares a random spell in your mind
