Taverns in Vionhous
This post is inspired by the tavern name tables in the Treasury of Archaic Names, a book which doesn't really justify its own existence, and yet seems like it would be pretty useful to have at the table actually?

Easy to miss, a humble dwelling in the shadow of the keep sits seemingly empty. Stairs in the pantry decend into a forgotten section of the castle dungeon, whose cells have been widened, cleaned and whitewashed into a comfortable gathering place. A favoured haven for the castle's servants, some of the most prodigious gossips in the city.

A squat, stone building topped with noisy beehives, a stone's throw from the cathedral. A rowdy crowd of off-duty holy folk are present at all hours. Sister Kithelm runs the books on official Jousts and Duels, even though she pays her indulgences, she is reluctant for the Abbot to learn the extent of her operation.

A wide villa made from imported white stone, decorated with statues of fauns and muses. Perched atop the hill in the garden district, it is only bested by the keep and the cathedral for grandeur. The courtyard is adorned with lush tropical gardens. Only members and their guests may enter, and membership is exclusive to the aristocracy, though some nobles buy their way in. A place for power-brokering, alliance-building and treachery.

A three-tiered structure of brightly painted wood, jutting out over the river on sturdy piers by the docks. A home away from home for sailors and the rowdier merchants. The heart of the house sports a raised dueling platform - the only rule to Eel's cove duels is that the first off the platform loses. Hawkvred's champion is a troll named Vulture-Tongue, the prize pot for the first to beat him sits at around 12000sp.

A tall, wooden tower, supporting large lean-tos of waxed canvas. At night it lights up the heart of the market, the shadows of dancers inside cast large on the fabric walls. Kinram hires musicians from across the world to entice homesick foreigners with the familiar and venturesome locals with the exotic.

A tall, narrow, wooden building leaning on the inside of the curtain wall near the conqorer's gate. Cartoonish effigies of executed criminals dangle from the rafters inside. An exclusive club for the castle's garrison and their guests, incidentally an excellent place to purchase contraband.

A comfortable wattle-and-daub cottage sits outside the Shepherd's Gate. Goats graize on its turf roof. A welcome respite for runaways and outcasts. Krufeline is happy to offer a humble bed and meal in exchange for a day's work, and is good at keeping secrets.

A makeshift structure of reclaimed wood of broken boats and carriages, suspended from the upper floors of two townhouses in the iterant's quarter. A gathering place for thugs and criminals. There are three sins in this house: Killing another patron, squealing to the watch, and skipping out on your tab, all three earn you a trip out the floor pit.
Contraband
Roll 1d6 per 50sp spent to view the contraband:
- Poison, administered orally. Victim must save vs poison or die within 1d6 hours. 1000sp.
- Sharpened lance-head. An unhorsing has a 4-in-6 chance of killing your opponent. 250sp
- Love Potion, administered orally. Victim must save vs poison or fall under the charms of the next person they see. They can save again each nightfall. 500sp
- Concealed blade. Strapped to your wrist, easily drawn. Always have a dagger handy. 50sp
- Paralytic rosin, enough to coat a blade for one combat. A hit victim must save vs poison or immediately seize, losing all ability to move under their own power for 2d6 hours. 100sp
- False coins. Very good tin forgeries, only have a 1-in-6 chance of being detected. 1sp per 100
